We can generate complex documentation that can be edited and re-used. We can prepare graphics for use on the World-Wide-Web or intranet publishing. We can also convert documents and graphics file formats and platforms.
The scanning process is as follows: Documents are scanned and converted into graphics files. Then, these files are processed by OCR software to convert the graphics images into text or text with graphics, which greatly reduces the size of the files and allows the text to be edited and/or indexed by search engines, thus allowing these documents to be posted on the Internet.
We can scan complex documents with or without graphics and pictures, and convert them into a format that you can use for archival, Internet, intranet, web page, electronic publishing, or editing purposes. Get all of your important documents into electronic format to save space and ensure their survival. Make documents available to your employees, customers, and/or clients, online! Convert your old files, documents, and data into a compact and permanent CD ROM format.
We can scan any number of pages for document sizes up to 11" x 17", and save these documents in many different formats (see below). Files can be saved on CD ROM for permanent archival, and can be made fully compatible for Internet usage.
We can convert scanned images into word processing formats such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect formats for editing and printing. Scanned documents can be converted to electronic spreasheets. We can also convert into PDF, ASCII, Postscript, text, and HTML formats. These files can be edited and used to build other documents and databases. They can also be indexed for easy searching and web availability. For web usage and to maintain an exact replica of the original document, we recommend the PDF format, which is fully compatible with, and in heavy use on, the Internet.
We can scan complex graphic images, color or B&W, low or high resolution, for documentation or Internet use.
We can convert among a number of graphics formats (tiff, JPEG, GIF, etc.) and between Macintosh and PC platforms. We can also print color ink-jet copies and transparencies.
Scanning & OCR prices depend on the quality & complexity of the originals and the total number of pages to be scanned. Prices typically range from as high as $1.00 per page to as low as $0.25 per page, with an average cost of approximately $0.65 per page or less. Prices can be reduced as much as 50% if no OCR processing is necessary.
You can estimate the cost of a job by the following formula:
Total Cost = [$3.00 x (number of documents/files)] + [(per page cost) x (number of pages)]
Where the per page cost ranges from $1.00 to $0.25 depending on the variables identified above.
These prices do not include any manual editing of the OCR results, which can increase costs substantially (often by 200% or more). However, because of the accuracy of modern OCR software (better than 95%, often approaching 99% or more), editing is necessary in only rare cases. If it is required that the electronic copy appear exactly as the original document, the Acrobat PDF file format can be used. Acrobat PDF is a commonly used electronic publishing format that can be used for archival and web publishing, and is compatible with web browsers. PDF files can be edited and may contain complex graphics and photographs. It is the format of choice for electronic and web publishing, and is already ubiquitous on the web. Most of our customers choose PDF format files, and it is highly recommended.
Our minimum cost is $100 for any job to cover overhead.
We work with clients across the United States. Documents can be shipped to us from any state, and turn-around is rapid, typically within a few weeks. We will return or destroy the originals at your request. Confidentiality is assured.
The electronic files can be delivered on CD ROM, DVD ROM, Zip disks, Jaz or Orb removable hard disks, or via the Internet or e-mail. Other options are available. Some of these formats entail an extra cost for media and labor.
